About Us

The Municipal Authority's water and sewer public works department plays a vital role with the quality of life in Sandy Township. Almost all installation, maintenance, repair, and testing is conducted in house. Public health is always the upmost concern within the department. Regular testing is done on both the water system and sewer system that we serve. The department is contantly monitoring water usage amongst the various entry points in the distribution system. When an overage is detected, the crew is out locating and fixing the problem, usually without any interruption of service to the customer.

The department purchases 100% of it's water through an agreement with the City of DuBois. We maintain a water pumping/chlorine booster station, a water storage tank, many fire hydrants, multiple home meters, all of our various entry point master meters, over 24 miles of water lines, a class "D" rated sewage treatment plant servicing the I80 exit 97 area, 4 sewage pumping stations, and over 24 miles of sewer lines. Our water lines vary in sizes from 2" to 12" and are contructed of mostly PVC (c-900 pipe), with some ductile iron, cast iron, and transite pipe as well. The sewer main lines vary in sizes from 8" through 15" and again are mostly PVC (sch 35) pipe, although some areas still have clay and transite pipe.

PA1 call marking is also handled by this department. CALL "811" BEFORE YOU DIG ON ANY PROJECT, it's the law and it protects not only the lines below ground from becoming broken, but also yourself from injury and liability for damage.

The department reports directly to the Public Works Director. He can be contacted by calling or by email using our Contact Us Page.
